CASE STUDY
In the clouds
OVERVIEW
For the album cover, I wanted to create something simplistic and colourful. As such, my album into the clouds aims to make an audience think and wonder. The simplicity of the design allows the viewer to interpret the meaning of the cover themselves.
CREATION
For this album, I used both Illustrator and Photoshop to edit the cover and create vector images. In illustrator, I traced over the buildings in the photo to create vector images and filled them in with a rainbow gradient and lowered the opacity. I then saved the images and placed them into photoshop. Doing this made the buildings stand out, adding depth to the cover. After using illustrator, I cut out and masked the girl in photoshop so that I could make the outlines of the building fit behind her. I used a cloud text to add to the theme of the cover and edited the background of the photo to appear more sunset like and blend with the rainbow buildings. I believe this adds a pop to the album and makes it more appealing.
CHALLENGES
Changing my concept was one of my main challenges, as I was dissapointed in my original idea and knew that I could produced better work and thus adapted my end goal. One of my other problems was arranging the aspects of the photos so that they blended and fit the theme. Initially, I had the buildings in front of the girl but soon realized cutting her out and placing them behind made the piece more cohesive. Ultimately, this project helped me gain a more thorough understanding of design concepts and taught me to be open to changes in design and switch up an idea.

CASE STUDY #2
The figure
OVERVIEW
The concept for this story is to create a short suspenseful film. The story is centered around a 16yr old girl who sees a dark figure that no one else can. When she hears a loud noise in her basement curiosity gets the best of her and she goes down to investigate.
CREATION
For this haunted themed script, I have looked into camera techniques used in horror movies. The clips I watched provided value insight into camera techniques such as the vertigo and the dutch angle. This angles help distort the image for a spooky effect. As well there is a good mix of MS, O/S, and WS to help establish character and setting. ECU will be used to build suspense and evoke emotion.
CHALLENGES
this film was produced at the height of covid and as such came with a variety of challenges. These included limited access to resources such as camera equipment, lighting, and actors. Despite this, these challenges force me to think creatively such as using an orange filter to create the effect of a flickering fire. Overall, the challenges in the film's creation proved that all is needed is to think outside the box.

CASE STUDY #3
Balance trailer
OVERVIEW
This trailer was created in collaboration with pickles digital, an independent production group that wrote and produced the film balance for the Toronto Fringe Film festival. The film highlights themes of substance abuse and mental health, as such, I tried to portray these themes in the creation of the trailer.
CREATION
To create this trailer I used a mix of behind-the-scenes footage and film footage. I then imported the footage to premiere pro where I adjusted the clips, colour gradients, and music to create one cohesive piece.
CHALLENGES
The challenge of creating the trailer was to entice viewers without revealing too much. This was accomplished through the use of clever editing and short clips/previews.
